Webflow's membership feature ends January 29th: what you need to know

Webflow is disabling User Accounts (aka Memberships) its native membership feature, across all sites.

If you're running a subscription business, membership community, or gated content site on Webflow, this deadline changes everything.

The businesses that understand what's happening now will transition smoothly. The ones that don't will face disruption, lost revenue, and frustrated members.

Here's what you need to know.

Why Webflow is sunsetting memberships

Webflow made a strategic decision: focus on what it does best, visual website building, rather than compete with specialised membership platforms.
It's a sensible choice.

Membership management, subscription billing, member analytics, and authentication are complex problems. They deserve dedicated solutions built by specialists, not features bolted onto a design platform.

Webflow's native User Accounts couldn't match what specialised platforms deliver.

Development stopped in December 2024. The sunsetting is now happening.

What changes on Thursday 29th January

Here's the situation according to Webflow:

  • You'll lose access to User Accounts and all User Accounts data, as it will not be migrated to the CMS.
  • User Accounts pages will be migrated to regular static pages.
  • For businesses using Webflow Ecommerce with paid subscriptions through Stripe: your subscriptions will continue to charge through Stripe. But your members lose login access, lose access to gated content, and lose their account data.
  • You'll be charging customers for access they can no longer get.

This isn't a theoretical risk. This is what happens if you don't migrate.

The timeline is fixed. There's no extension, no grace period, no last-minute reprieve.

The real opportunity

Most agencies are sitting back, hoping this problem doesn't land on their client list.

Some are scrambling to understand what Outseta is, or Memberstack, or any of the alternative platforms that could fill the gap.
